How to take a screenshot on Samsung devices

As we mentioned, there are some manufacturers and devices that decided to be rogue and showcasing their own methods of taking screenshots on Android. In some cases, these are alternatives that can be used in addition to the three main methods discussed. In other cases, they completely replace the default Android options. You will find most examples below.

Smartphones with Bixby digital assistant
If you own a newer flagship phone than Samsung Galaxy, like Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 10, you have Bixby digital assistant pre-installed. It can be used to take a screenshot just with a voice command. All you have to do is go to the screen where you want to take the screenshot, and if you have configured it correctly, just say "Hey Bixby". When the assistant starts to work, say "capture screenshot", and it will. You can view the saved clip in the Gallery app on your phone.

If your Samsung phone is not configured to recognize the "Hey Bixby" command, all you have to do is press and hold the dedicated Bixby button on the side of the phone, then say "Take a screenshot" to finish the process.

You can use the S Pen to take a screenshot since your device is equipped with one. Simply pull out the S Pen and run the Air Command (if it doesn't happen automatically), then select Screen Typing. Usually, after taking a screenshot, the photo will open immediately for editing. Just remember to save the edited screenshot afterward.

Palm swipe

On some Samsung phones, there is another way to take a screenshot. Go to settings and tap advanced features. Scroll down to see and swap the Palm Swipe To Capture option. To take a screenshot, position your hand vertically either on the right or left edge of the smartphone screen, then swipe over the screen. The screen should flash and you will see a notification indicating that a screenshot has been taken.

Intelligent capture

When Samsung decided how to take screenshots on Android, everything really went out! Smart Capture allows you to grab a whole webpage, rather than just appearing on your screen. Take a regular screenshot using any of the above methods, then select scroll and continue clicking to scroll to the bottom of the page. This effectively bundles multiple photos together.

Smart selection
Smart Select allows you to capture only specific parts of what appears on your screen, take elliptical screenshots, or even create short GIFs from movies and animations!

You can reach Smart Selection by swiping the Edge panel, then selecting the Smart Selection option. Choose the shape and select the area you want to capture. First, you may need to enable this feature in Settings by going to Settings> Screen> Edge Screen> Edge Panels.
