Everything you need to know about Tanzania Mikumi National Park

Mikumi is the fourth largest national park in Tanzania. It is also more easily accessible from Dar es Salaam. With almost guaranteed wildlife sights, it makes a safari destination perfect for those who don't have much time.

Since the completion of the paved road connecting the park gate to Dar es Salaam, Mikumi National Park is set to become a hotspot for tourism in Tanzania. Nestled between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango Chain, Mikumi is Tanzania's fourth largest national park and a few hours' drive from Tanzania's largest city.
The park contains a wide range of wild animals that can be seen easily and well adapted for watching games. Its proximity to Dar es Salaam and the amount of wildlife living within its borders make the Mecumi National Park a popular choice for weekend visitors from the city, or for business visitors who do not have to spend a long time on a long safari trip.

Most visitors come to Mikumi National Park with the goal of unveiling the "Big Five" (leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros), and they are not always disappointed. Hippo pools provide close access to mud-loving monsters, and bird watching along waterways is particularly rewarding. Mikumi National Park borders the Selous Game Reserve and Udzungwa National Park, and the three sites represent a varied and fun safari circle.

Swirls of opaque fog hides advanced dawn. The first sun's shafts adorn the heads of delicate grass stretching across the plain in a Russian aura. A herd of zebras, confident in camouflaging it in this predatory watch, resembling ballet, alignment heads and lines merging into the flowing movement.

The Mecumi National Park is located on the northern border of Africa's largest animal reserve - Silos - and it intersects with the rooftop road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa. It is thus the most easily accessible part of 75,000 km2 (47,000 sq mi) of wilderness that extends approximately east to the Indian Ocean.

The open horizons and abundant wildlife of Mkata Floodplain, the popular central plot of Mikumi, attract frequent comparisons to the most famous Serengeti Plains.

Lions wipe their grassy kingdom - zebra herds, wild animals, impala and buffalo that migrate through them - from the terminals of termite hills, or sometimes during rain, from high heights in the trees. Giraffes feed in the isolated Acacia that surrounds the Makata River shore, the shadow islands also favored by Mikumi's elephants.

Criss-crossed by a good circle of game viewing ways, Mkata Floodplain is perhaps the most reliable place in Tanzania to see the strong Ileand, the largest antelope in the world. The larger kodo and impressive clay antelope also bargain on the slopes of the Miombo Covered Mountains that rise from the garden boundaries.

Over 400 species of birds have been recorded, with familiar, colorful inhabitants such as the purple-breasted drum, the long yellow-throated claw and the Battler Eagle who were joined by a group of European immigrants during the rainy season. Hippos are the star attraction of swimming pools located 5 km north of the main entrance gate, backed by the ever-changing bird water crew.
